Gardens By The Bay - A Major Tourist Attraction

Singapore’s major attraction for tourists - Gardens by the Bay – is a nature park spanning across 250 acres of land. The park is an outcome of the National Parks Board Singapore's vision of creating a City in a Garden.

There was an international master plan design competition that was launched in January 2006 in Singapore in order to attract world-class design ideas for Gardens by the Bay. The competition drew more than 70 entries submitted by 170 firms, from over 24 countries, including 35 from Singapore.

An 11-member Jury comprising local and international experts announced two winners in September 2006; namely Grant Associates for Bay South and Gustafson Porter for Bay East, both from the UK. Bay Central was decided to be developed later.

Gardens’ development commenced in November 2007 and today it is a symbol of Singapore's premier urban outdoor recreation space, and a national icon.

The park, home to more than 1000, 000 plants ranks among the world’s top 20 most checked-in places on Facebook. With various schemes and promotions, the Gardens have been able to reach the milestone of attracting over 20 million visitors in three years.
